The Snowflake and The Avalanche

The Shoe Pendant

,,No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible."
Voltaire
It's been a very busy period for fashion bloggers all over the world: flying to Milan, London, Paris and so on, planning outfits, charging and recharging camera batteries, posting on blogs and so many more. It's also been a little bit of a renaissance of the fashion lovers that attend the above mentioned events. This change is mostly owed to Suzy Menkes' Fashion Circus article . Bloggers ( at least some of them) started going for simpler combinations and outrageous (meaning hideous) outfits were a little bit less on display. Or so it seems from the pictures that are rolling around the WWW right now.

It's also an invasion of variations of the famous article. Everyone is saying how truthful this is and how the fashion industry has become the home of kitsch peacocks and ostro-zebras, but they're not aware of how much this sometimes applies to them. However, I'm not writing an article on this topic, but on how the avalanche effect works on people. And I've found the best example to support my theory.

Have it this way: when people realized that dressing up in 10 prints per square inch would bring them at least 15 minutes of fame, they did it. When they realized it was fashionable to talk about how people who want fame wear weird and mismatched clothing, they started writing about it. When they understood what being fashionable really meant, they tried doing it. Well, at least the latter is actually a good thing. Nevertheless, it stands to prove how much the flock influence weighs on people.

Furthermore, there's another rule in this: there are those that join the general direction and those who, apparently, fight it. They are still on the same side: they praise the same trend, though from two different views. And then there's me. I'm also with them: getting light and exposure on the same topic.

But the thing is, as I said in the title and as Voltaire said, each person isn't to blame for the mass reaction. It's bound to happen sometime. There is a hot issue boiling in the hearts and minds of many and when one erupts, the many simply follow.

But this doesn't mean that when a trend becomes of such aperture as the one with the Fashion Week circus, no one should follow. If you have it in your heart to be for or to be against, no one should be there to tell you that you are wrong. I sometimes dress like a peacock and I sometimes dress like a zebra. Or maybe sometimes I go plain ol' classy with a little black dress. It doesn't matter. If I feel it, I'm going to do it. And so should you.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

― H. Jackson Brown Jr.

  3. I totally agree with you and that quote is spot on!

Everything's exactly how you described it: it's easy to point fingers and criticize and shout out how different you are, just because right now it's cool to be doing that, but you forget that a few months back you did exactly the same thing as the people you are bashing around now. That's what some people are doing. Anyway, I hope this came out right.. it makes sense in my head :)).

I really don't know where the fun in fashion went, and what it is with all this hatred.

Back to the pretty things, I must say that love your tights & the dress ^_^

    Hugs,
